July 3rd Celebrations at Chesapeake Beach

by admin on June 12, 2011

The Chesapeake Beach Independence day celebration is scheduled for Sunday, July 3rd 2011. We want everybody to enjoy the show with as many visitors as you can handle. At the same time, we have an obligation to limit the number of guest vehicles, so we can keep streets open for general safety and maintain a path for emergency vehicles. Once again Sheriff’s Deputies will be at the intersection of C St and 17th St and also at C St and Mears Ave from 3pm until 9pm. Please respect them and follow their guidance.

As in the past we are asking residents to volunteer one hour of their time to stand with the deputies at the barricades to help check passes. Margie Hunter, 410-257-5647, and Maggie Schleuber, 410-286-2421, are coordinating this effort. Give them a call if you are willing to take a short break from your festivities, and help the deputies do their job.

You can help this system work, it has been planned for your safety, security and convenience. Please:

  • Don’t ask for passes unless you intend to use them. If your plans change, give your passes to someone who needs them or return them to the Board.
  • Plan ahead. Get passes to your guests in plenty of time. Please have your guests carpool. This saves passes, parking spaces and gasoline. If your guests are arriving early, consider having them park in public areas and walk into Chesapeake Station. Another option is the Beach Trolley, have your guests park someplace where the Trolley stops. There are really a lot of options other than bringing lots of cars into Chesapeake Station.
  • Understand that if your guests don’t have a parking pass, their vehicle will not be admitted even if you vouch for them. (If you are unable to get the pass to them in advance, you can meet them at the entrance with it.)
  • Remember that you are responsible for the conduct and safety of your guests. That includes watching where they park and making sure that they have a designated driver, if needed.
  • Make sure your own cars have CSHOA parking stickers so you aren’t stopped. If you need a sticker, contact Margie Hunter at 410-257-5647 or Keith Pardieck at 410-286-7380. (But please don’t give your sticker to a guest.)

Beginning June 10, passes for guest vehicles will be available from Keith Pardieck, 410-286-7380, keith_pardieck@comcast.net, and Charlie Pritchard, 310-325-0512, to any resident or owner in Chesapeake Station, with a limit of four per household. Starting June 28th, any remaining passes will be available to those needing more than four until the supply is exhausted.

We have only 260 passes, because that is the maximum number of cars that can safely park in our community and still get emergency equipment through if necessary. Remember that each pass is for one car, not one individual. We don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, and we’re not trying to limit the size of your party. We’re just trying to keep our streets safe, and all your neighbors will be grateful for your help.

Thanks for your cooperation and help, and have a wonderful Independence Day celebration.
