Chesapeake Station Break-in

by Elizabeth on March 26, 2009

Sue Furney discovered Wednesday, March 25 that a window had been forced open and a flat-screen television set removed from her home. Because she had not visited the property for several weeks, it isn’t clear when the break-in occurred. Sue reports that Sheriff’s deputies told her that once the window screen has been removed, locked windows often can be opened with a pocket knife. She was also told that a kit can be purchased at hardware stores to insert a rod in the window to thwart such efforts. Residents may want to consider that, especially for ground-floor and deck windows.

More important, this incident is a reminder to be alert to suspicious people or activity. Don’t hesitate to call 911 or the Sheriff’s non-emergency number, 410-525-2800. If your house will be unattended for a period of time, it would be wise to ask a neighbor to keep an eye on your property, and perhaps park a car in your driveway. And of course everyone should keep doors, accessible windows and cars locked. Thank you.

If you have neighbors who do not use the internet please pass on this important message.

Disturbing news for our peaceful little community. Would anyone be interested in talking with the local law enforcement about starting a Neighborhood Watch?

I think it’s great that the Board has published the sheriff’s non-emergency phone number. I am going to stick it on my kitchen bulletin board, so that I will have it at hand should I observe suspicious activity. Good to keep the 911 lines open for legitimate emergencies.

The correct non-emergency number is 410-535-2800. That’s my fault, as it was incorrect in my email. Apologies, George

Hi George,

Please add our e-mail address to your list. I am sorry to say that I have not kept up with the CSHOA news – apparently they are not distributing the hard copy any longer.

Yesterday was the first day I saw the sign that we are having a Yard Sale.

Thank you – Jean
